MITT-CHIGAN. . .

ON MICHIGAN ISSUES:

Howdee Feller Mittiots (seems the Southern drawl is a draw for some in the netwonk-o-sphere) just want to blog a bit about the latest goings on in Michigan. First off, for those in-state Mittiots, tomorrow is Sign Up Michigan Day and we need your help if able:

Secondly, here's my belief on what will be Michigan's Primary situation. As you may or may not remember, Michigan moved the primary up into Feb. sometime in 1999 prior to the 2000 election. The half-butt job got us into a "closed" primary open to anyone in the state. The result, McCain carried Michigan after an enormous number of "independent voters" voted in the GOP Primary. Regardless, our fearless State Chair, Saul Anuzis, and the State Committee have at least learned the following: Early Primaries draw attention (which is a good thing) AND stand alone primaries draw shenanigans (which ain't so good to the concept of a PARTY primary). As such, we have legislation pending that will move the GOP Primary up, again, IF coupled with the Dem Primary.

My take? We're going in January. . . with or without the Dems. If we go without, we'll truly close our "GOP Primary" by having a mega caucus at the State Convention. Which is the way it should be, anyway. In short, your Mittiot's bettin' we'll be doing a State Convention. Now, Mittiots, this is where it gets good!

If/when we do a State Convention to choose OUR candidate, Mitt Romney finishes first. . . by a shed-load. And, McCainiacs, John McCain will be in the running (though, without the "Indy's," his chances are severely diminished). Who fares poorly? Giuliani. Why? No organization. [see, Rudy's State Chair, Candice Miller's Objection]. Who else fares poorly? Thompson. Why? No organization. [see, Thompson Not Ready for Takeoff?] While Fred and his on again off again campaign team dink around with "when best to become official," real candidates are securing key endorsements (ie. Romney's steller grab of Former Lt. Gov., Dick Posthumus and Michigan's favorite Sheriff, Mike Bouchard).

Romney has Michigan tied-up, even with Spence Abraham (a good catch, by the way) heading up Thompson's "campaign." AND, speaking of Thompson's "campaign" - seems now the best time for Fred to "get real" is sometime in September - for those keeping score that's:

June - not June; July - not July; August - not August; September. . .I guess I'll continue to believe it only when I see it. Good to see such decisiveness from a potential presidential candidate.

~ so sayeth the Mittiot.
